Wedding Invitations
2021
Mississauga, Ontario
This project reimagines the wedding invitation as a travel document, transforming the experience of attending a wedding into the feeling of embarking on a journey. Drawing inspiration from passports, boarding passes, and international travel ephemera, the design system blends formal document aesthetics with romantic visual elements.
The central piece is a passport-style invitation, printed on heavy matte stock with rounded corners to mimic the tactile quality of an official document. The cover uses a minimal black background contrasted with silver foil accents, reinforcing the authority and visual language of an authentic passport. The title “Passport” and the couple’s names act as the focal point, while the date is highlighted in a soft violet tone, introducing a subtle romantic color palette.
Opening the invitation reveals additional layers of the travel narrative. One side contains practical wedding information presented in a structured layout reminiscent of immigration documents and travel itineraries. Typography is kept clean and hierarchical to maintain clarity while still echoing the graphic language of official forms.
The invitation insert is designed as a boarding pass, further extending the travel concept. It presents guest information, location, and ceremony details in the format of airline documentation, complete with barcodes and segmented information fields. Soft lavender gradients and fluid shapes add a sense of movement and elegance, balancing the rigidity of the document-inspired layout.
Supporting materials complete the experience. The envelope features a simplified world map in a violet gradient, symbolizing both the journey of the couple and the gathering of guests from different places. A monogram placed on the envelope adds a personal touch while maintaining the refined aesthetic.
Two variations of the interior were explored: one emphasizing informational content with passport-style stamps and travel graphics, and another incorporating a photographic portrait of the couple to create a more intimate connection. Both approaches maintain the overarching concept of travel while offering different emotional tones.
Overall, the project focuses on transforming a functional invitation into an immersive narrative object—one that invites guests not only to a wedding, but to a shared journey.
